Our Functional Math Class teaches a variety of math skills needed and uses in our daily lives. Students learn to:

Identify, count and write numbers

Distinguish between days and months

Look for specific dates or days when given

Count up to special events

Give the days before and after a given day

Writing number words

Count base 10 blocks

Identify coins and the dollar and their values

Record information using tally marks and creating graphs

Reading graphs

Rounding to the nearest 10

Distinguish between school days and weekends

Dress for the weather

Tell time on an analog clock

 

During other small group math centers, students are supported when learning to use calculators, add and subtract using number lines and manipulatives, make and create a pattern, are introduced to fractions, reading a thermometer and what it means, using a ruler and scale
